About Us
Based at the Wellington Regional Aquatic Centre, Capital Swim Club offers competitive swimmers an opportunity to excel in their chosen sport. We are dedicated to promoting the joy of swimming and fostering a community of aquatic enthusiasts of all ages and abilities.
We have a professional coaching programme that begins at a junior level and provides a seamless pathway up to national level. The club has produced many national champions and prides itself in offering the right environment for athletes to succeed and thus reach their full potential.
Whether you're just starting or aiming for competitive swimming, our club offers a welcoming and supportive environment where you can achieve your goals and enjoy the many benefits of swimming. Squad training times are scheduled to fit in with school and work commitments and senior squads have access to fully equipped modern gyms.

History of Capital Swim Club

Amalgamation of two swimming clubs . Boys and Girls Institute and Gale Force.

Capital City Amateur Swimming Club was formed.

Club colours of electric blue, fluoro yellow and black adopted.

Training began at Freyberg Pool.

The original committee included Pam Edwards, Pat O’Neill (Chair), Susan Graham.

Rhonda Geary with Gary Hurring as head coach.

After a sponsorship deal with Fay Richwhite Enterprises the club adopted the name Fay Richwhite Capital City (FRCC).

Top Wellington club for the first time.

Junior squads begin training at the newly constructed Wellington Regional Aquatic Centre, Kilbirnie due to successful lobbying by then Club Chairman, Ray Hope.

Wellington’s top club / National ranking 9.

Club reverted back to its original name but shortened it to Capital Swim Club.

Still top Wellington club / National ranking 8 - Jon Winter represents NZ at Olympics.

The club has continued to build on its foundation and has steadily worked its way up to a National ranking in the top three for the last four years and has remained Wellington’s top ranked club for the last twelve years.

Another important stage in the club development in 2007 with the amalgamation with local junior club TSW and the addition of new coaches based at Kilbirnie.

In 2008 Tash Hind became the club's second Olympian with selection to the Beijing Olympic team.

Still top Wellington club at every major meet and ranked in top three nationally.

The development of a High Performance Unit at Freyberg in 2009 with Danyon Loader joining Gary as an assistant.
